(More customer reviews)My two year old, hundred pound mutt (Great Dane/Doberman/Coon Hound mix) suddenly became so lame one day about a year ago that he couldn't put one hind foot on the ground. He couldn't even climb up into the car by himself. The vet diagnosed severe dysplasia and recommended a hip replacement surgery as soon as the inflammation subsided. We started him on a series of anti-inflammitories and pain killers which helped. But he still winced and limped and seemed stiff whenever the drugs began to wear off.
I started giving him two biscuits in the morning and two in the evening each day (one biscuit for each 25 pounds). Within six weeks he was acting like a happy tail pup again-- no limping, no wincing, no stiffness. Even the vet was pleasantly surprised at how well he is doing. The surgery is postponed indefinitely.
This product comes in a big cardboard shipping carton with a sturdy plastic moisture proof and insect proof bag, not a garbage bag. It is perfect for safely storing the biscuits that don't fit into the "cookie jar" on the counter top.
*** update ***
My latest order arrived today (July 20 2010) and the biscuits inside the cardboard carton were in a cheesy garbage bag! With a hole in it! The biscuits, however, were very fresh and yummy smelling so I transferred them to airtight containers for storage.

(More customer reviews)February 8, 2006: We were considering hip replacement surgery for our 90 lb lab who was diagnosed with hip dysplaysia. Our vet recommended we try Cosequin DS first. We had tried similar products with no improvement and didn't expect this to work either. We were wrong. There was a marked difference in our lab's activity level within the first two weeks. Currently, he plays runs, and jumps with no pain. This product worked wonders for our dog.
UPDATE June 18, 2007: Cosequin did work wonders for our lab, but he also has Degenerative Myelopathy which was missed due to the hip dysplasia. We had never heard of this disease and didn't know the signs or symptoms to watch for. Please, if your dog is on a joint therapy product, search for Degenerative Myelopathy on the internet and familiarize yourself with the symptoms. As the disease progresses without treatment, your dog's chance for recovery and/or stabilization become less and less. The University of Florida has a lot of information on their website regarding this disease and a video depicting dogs in various stages of this disease.

I was considering placing my older Doberman on joint medication because I noticed decreasing strength in her hind quarters. She has been on Joint Oats for three months and seems to be more in control of her hips when traveling on stairs and exiting my car. Very easy to give...half a scoop with breakfast...half a scoop with dinner. She doesn't even know she's getting it.
The representative selling Joint Oats explained that the way it is formulated, the glucosamine travels with a smaller molecule, allowing it to be utilized in smaller doses than those mega pills of 1000 to 1500 mg.

Cosequin DS appears to have really made a difference!!! He is able to get up & down more easily than with other supplements I have tried. His gait appears to be better & he appears have much less stiffness. At 14, he's not going to run around like a puppy, but I am very pleased with the results so far.

(More customer reviews)Just got my order of these tablets today. Thought I was getting a really good deal with 1000 but I have to use twice as many as with my usual brand. I was using 1 per 10 lbs.; these require 2 per 10 lbs. So I must use twice as many so it is not nearly the bargain I thought. But the worse part is that liver and peanut butter are both listed in the description above ingredients and neither of these are listed on the ingredients on the bottle.
The ingredients on the bottle are: Brewer's Dried Yeast, Montmoriilonite Clay, Diccalcim Phospahate, Garlic, Natureal Flavoring, Stearic Acid, Silica Aerogel, Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, Magnesium, Stearate, Dried Whey, Vegetable Oil, Niacin supplement. Riblflavin, Ascorbic Acid, and Thiamine Mononitrate.
I am not even sure some of this this stuff is good for my dogs. Will have to figure out what the heck all this is. I may be sending it back.
FOLLOW UP: This company corrected their misinformation within a couple of days and offered me a full refund including shipping after I sent them an email. Very honest.

Recently his hips have been causing him big problems after a trip down some stairs ( at present he is 3 1/2yrs) I added this product to his daily boswiella and sea cucumber routine and within 2 weeks I had my playful puppy back. Enough that I could take him off his daily baby aspirin for pain. I have several older dogs I plan to add this to their diet as well...I definitely recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)Recently my 9 year-old golden retriever began having problems standing on wood floors, his back paws would slide sideways and he would have trouble holding himself up or otherwise walking. This was especially true when he first woke up in the morning, his back legs seemed stiff and he also had trouble going down stairs. He did not have as much trouble on carpets or outside, but it was clear he was having some joint issues.
After doing some online research, I decided to give Osteo Pet Glucosamine Chondroitin for Dogs a try. This same basic formula is also made for humans, incidentally, with excellent results. Read around online and you'll see.
Well, it's only been a few weeks, but my dog's improvement is very noticeable. He no longer has trouble on wood floors, and he can get down the stairs like he used to. No hesitation, no limping, no trouble at all. He likes the bacon flavor of these tablets, which are somewhat large, and he gobbles them down as if they were a dog treat. No issues there whatsoever.
My only concern is that, because my dog weighs about 85 lbs., he needs to take 4 of these tabs every day (per the recommendation on the bottle). This is going to get expensive, but of course, I'd pay alot more to keep him healthy and active.
Bottom line is, this product seems to work very well, and I'm very glad my dog likes the taste of it so it's easy to get him to chew them up. If your dog is having joint issues as well, give this a try and perhaps your dog will respond like mine did. Good luck.

We thought he would need surgery on the other hip, but since he has been taking this for the past year he is doing fine! I can see the difference when he doesn't have it (we ran out once for a few days). I shopped around alot and tried other brands but I found this best. Some other types require anywhere from 4 - 8 tablets per day. Riley is 65 pounds and we give him 1 tablet twice a day. This seems to be the best quality, the least hassle, and the price is right.
